A study has shown that close to half of all teenagers with an autism spectrum disorder are bullied at school. The results, published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, suggest that rate is much higher than the estimated 11% of bullied kids in the general population. It has been found that children who are bullied tend to be more depressed, lonely and anxious. These children tend to do worse in school than those who are not picked on. Those children with an autism spectrum disorder most often already struggle in school. The bullying could make things extra difficult.Full article.
