Nielsen is a global research company that studies consumers in more than 100 countries and provides information about what consumers watch and buy, their trends and habits. Based on marketing research, Nielsen also explains why some websites are effective and why others are not.
In 2011, Nielsen predicted that by 2012, smartphone sales would overtake computer sales. He was right. Not only did more people buy more smartphones than pcs, the following also occurred:
- In October 2013, Internet Retailer reported that “55 percent of time spent with e-retail in June occurred on a mobile device and 45 percent occurred on desktops and laptops”
- In February 2014, CNN Money reported that mobile devices accounted for 55% of internet usage in the United States, compared with pcs at 45% usage
Nielsen also told us in 2012 that:
- 79 percent of U.S. consumers use a smartphone to help with their shopping
- On average, people look at their phones 150 times per day

Responsive web design is the term used for sites that are user friendly on mobile devices. When a user does a search and your website pops up on the internet, you want it to look appealing and have a mobile friendly layout. You no doubt have noticed that some sites’ layouts are cut off or the text is so small you cannot easily read the web content on your smartphone.
Several law firms recently took the initiative to make their sites mobile user friendly. The Law Offices of Bonnie Lawston, Law Offices of Bill Streppone, as Chris Palermo, ESQ . A few Psychotherapists in NYC and California also decided to create mobile friendly websites: Susan Whedbee, LCSW, Alan Cohen LCSW, BCD, LP and Affordable Therapy, Los Angeles . The websites are all responsive site designs done by Web Perseverance. These sites feature parallax scrolling and other design elements for mobile viewers. In fact, responsive web design is attractive and functional on all platforms ─ pcs, laptops and mobile devices, such as smart phones, iphones, tablets and ipads. We invite you to view other responsive websites we have built as well.
